TYROS puede mostrar una partitura

musical completa en la pantalla de
cristal líquido integrada. Esto ofrece
numerosas posibilidades a intérpretes

partitura en el formato de elección del

Qué es la función de partitura
El instrumento creará inmediatamente

la pantalla de partitura musical a
partir del software idóneo o a partir de
su propia interpretación grabada en el
secuenciador integrado. El software
con el logotipo XF contiene también
símbolos de acordes que el instrumento
puede detectar para reproducir una
canción con los estilos integrados.
Mediante la selección de
acompañamientos alternativos, puede
reproducir una canción XF en el estilo
de su elección.

Qué es el modo de guía
La función de partitura musical de

TYROS incluye también un modo de
guía que le permite interpretar una
canción a su propio ritmo. Si lo elige,
la canción esperará hasta que toque la
nota correcta para proporcionarle así
una forma intuitiva y divertida de
conocer la estructura de la partitura
y la disposición del teclado. Esta
función también resulta útil cuando
se aprende una nueva pieza de música.

Qué son las letras
Con la utilización de un software

adecuado, TYROS puede mostrar las
letras de las canciones y convertir así
el instrumento en la herramienta ideal
para karaokes o vocalistas
profesionales. Las letras pueden verse
en la pantalla de cristal líquido
integrada o en un monitor o aparato
de TV externo por medio del puerto de
salida de vídeo.

Qué es la armonía vocal
Mediante la conexión de un micrófono,

TYROS puede transformar su voz en un
efecto de armonía increíble con dos o
tres partes vocales adicionales. Se
dispone también de una gama de
efectos integrados para cambiar el
género y el tono de la voz, así como
efectos de estudio más tradicionales
como la reverberación, retardo y
compresión.

Otra función es " Vocal CueTIME ", una

La consola de mezclas integrada de

TYROS es un mezclador digital
totalmente funcional que le permite
controlar el volumen, los efectos y las
características de sonido de todas las
partes y pistas. Observe cómo se
mueven los faders y cómo se giran los
potenciómetros mientras los
parámetros de sonido cambian en
consecuencia.

Qué es EQ
Con el EQ o ecualizador puede ajustar

la frecuencia de las partes individuales
y el sonido general. Puede potenciar
los graves o cortar la gama media,
recalcar los agudos, etc. Con el potente
EQ de cinco bandas, puede incluso
controlar los detalles más pequeños de
la respuesta de frecuencia. Con EQ,
el sonido de TYROS es extraordinario
en cualquier entorno acústico, como
podrá escuchar en esta demostración.

Qué es la automatización
Los faders y potenciómetros de la

consola de mezclas controlan muchos
parámetros distintos como el volumen,
la panorámica, los ajustes de efectos,
EQ y otros. Estos ajustes no son
estáticos sino que también pueden
cambiar dentro de una pieza musical.
Como en un mezclador digital

Se trata de un procesador de sonido

potente que también se utiliza mucho
en transmisiones, grabaciones y en
la televisión. Se suben los volúmenes
bajos mientras que los sonidos altos se
reducen o limitan. El resultado es un
campo acústico muy detallado y
preciso.

Qué es DSP
DSP son las siglas de Digital Sound

Processor (procesador de sonido digital).
TYROS cuenta con numerosos DSP de
diferentes tipos, así como una gran
cantidad de bloques DSP. Esto significa
que se pueden utilizar diferentes efectos
simultáneamente.

Qué es DSP
Una parte de órgano se puede tocar con

el efecto de un altavoz giratorio,
mientras que el piano eléctrico utiliza un
efecto de coro típico. La guitarra que
toca la melodía se procesa mediante un
efecto de distorsión y el pulsador de
sintetizador se amplía mediante uno de
los efectos Flanger. Se añade eco y
reverberación a la señal del micrófono
que después se procesa adicionalmente
mediante el DSP de armonía vocal,
mientras que las baterías pasan por un
programa de reverberación diferente.
Todo esto y mucho más sucede a la vez
gracias al enorme número de DSP de
TYROS.

Aplicaciones USB y para PC
USB son las siglas de Universal Serial

Bus (bus serie universal) y es
la conexión de alta velocidad entre
TYROS y el ordenador. Mediante USB,
un ordenador externo puede acceder a
las unidades internas de TYROS, para
ofrecer así una forma cómoda de
organizar todo tipo de datos, como
archivos MIDI, registros, estilos, etc.

Micrófono
TYROS cuenta con armonía vocal y DSP

adicionales para el micrófono. Puede
añadir fácilmente reverberación y eco u
otros efectos a la señal del proceso,
mientras que el procesador de armonía
vocal genera hasta tres voces vocales
más.

Controlador de pedal MIDI MFC10
Con el controlador de pedal MFC10 se

pueden controlar cómodamente una
amplia gama de funciones. El MFC10
es totalmente programable, para así
poder decidir con libertad qué
funciones se pueden controlar
mediante él.

Salida de vídeo
La salida de vídeo es una prestación

magnífica para mostrar el contenido de
la pantalla en color en un monitor
externo. TYROS puede incluso limitar
la visualización externa a las páginas de
letras exclusivamente, de esta forma
las demás páginas y operaciones no
aparecerán en la pantalla externa.

Disco duro opcional
TYROS está preparado para un disco

duro, lo que permite guardar una gran
cantidad de datos como canciones,
estilos, registros, etc. La interfaz USB
facilita la operación de copia de datos
al disco duro interno y desde él.

Salidas múltiples
Además de la salida estéreo " Izquierda "

y " Derecha ", TYROS ofrece también
2 salidas asignables individuales.
Cualquier parte, por ejemplo una pista
concreta de una canción o un estilo,
puede asignarse a cualquiera de las
salidas individuales para hacer posible
así un proceso de sonido más profesional.

Altavoces
El TYROS se ha diseñado para que los

altavoces puedan girarse a cualquier
posición. También son desmontables
para optimizar su carácter portátil.
El juego completo de altavoces consta
de dos altavoces y un sub woofer; en
el juego se incluyen todos los cables y
las piezas de ajuste.

Preparado para PC
El mantenimiento de los datos que

incluye, por ejemplo, la creación de
copias de seguridad o el cambio de
nombre y relación de los archivos en
carpetas, es fácil y cómodo con TYROS.
Con el USB, puede copiar rápidamente

Song Creator (creador de canciones) es

un potente secuenciador de 16 pistas
perfecto para la grabación y edición de
canciones. Hay distintos métodos para
grabar y editar canciones, desde
Grabación fácil hasta el modo
Grabación por pasos muy detallado.
Qué es Song Creator
Grabación fácil: con este método puede

utilizar los fantásticos estilos de TYROS
en sus canciones. En este modo,
la reproducción del estilo se graba como
secuencia MIDI en la canción. Se trata
de una forma rápida y cómoda de
grabar canciones con arreglos en unos
minutos.
Sólo tiene que pulsar REC y
START/STOP como en una grabadora
de cassette. ¡Es así de sencillo!
Qué es Song Creator
Grabación por pasos: con este método

puede ver, acceder y modificar el más
mínimo detalle de una secuencia MIDI
hasta el nivel de eventos individuales.
La introducción de datos nuevos
también resulta sencilla, incluso para
músicos que no puedan interpretar en
un teclado.
Qué es Song Creator
Grabación de acordes por pasos: este

modo es idóneo para crear pistas de
acompañamiento en unos pocos
minutos. Sólo tiene que escribir
la secuencia de acordes deseada y las
secciones de estilo correspondientes.
TYROS generará después una
secuencia MIDI basada en
la información armónica y los estilos
seleccionados.

Qué es Style Creator
TYROS incluye ya cientos de estilos con

arreglos profesionales. Además, el Style
Creator ofrece la posibilidad de
modificar estilos existente o incluso
crear nuevos estilos a partir de cero.
Puede incluso combinar partes de
distintos estilos y crear después estilos
híbridos.

Qué es el control de canciones en tiempo real
Con este control, las canciones ya no

tienen que reproducirse desde el
principio hasta el final. De esta forma
la reproducción de canciones es más
flexible, se pueden repetir partes
concretas u omitirlas. La duración de
la canción puede modificarse en tiempo
real sin cambiar sus datos.

Qué es Sound Creator
Sound Creator es una forma rápida y

sencilla de editar una voz para
adaptarla a sus necesidades. Esta
función le ofrece acceso a parámetros
como ataque, disminución e intensidad,
y también le permite determinar un
DSP concreto para una voz.

Qué es una voz personalizada
Modificar una voz para adaptarla a sus

preferencias personales no podría ser
más sencillo. Para facilitar aún más
las cosas, TYROS se distribuye con un
software de editor de voces para el PC
que le permite modificar en mayor
profundidad las voces y que puede dar
como resultado la creación de sonidos
completamente nuevos. Este software
puede utilizarse para modificar los
parametros de voz.

Qué es la función de 10 teclas
Las canciones, estilos y otros datos

musicales aparecen en la pantalla para
su elección. Con la operación de
10 teclas, se dispone también de un
método abreviado: introduzca un
número, con el teclado de 10 teclas
situado debajo de la pantalla, para
acceder directamente a cualquier
entrada.

Se dispone además de las funciones de
reserva de siguiente canción y
reproducción de cadena de canciones
para la selección de canciones.

Memoria de registro sin límites ¿Alguna vez se ha quedado sin suficiente

memoria de registro? ¡Ya no le volverá
a suceder! TYROS dispone de un número
ilimitado de memorias de registro.
¿Cuánta necesita? ¿1000, 5000 o 10000?
¡Sólo tiene que hacerlo!

Los botones de memoria de registro con

iluminación de fondo se han
centralizado en el panel para facilitar su
acceso durante la interpretación. Si el
botón se enciende en verde, hay datos
guardados. Una luz roja indica el
registro actual seleccionado.

Pulsación posterior
El teclado de TYROS está equipado con

dos tipos de sensibilidad al toque:
pulsación inicial y pulsación posterior.
La pulsación inicial responde a
la velocidad o fuerza con que se toca
una tecla, mientras que la pulsación
posterior capta cualquier variación en
la presión que se ejerce en la tecla.
De esta forma los sonidos de TYROS se
pueden interpretar con dinamismo y
expresividad.

Qué son los pulsadores múltiples
La función de pulsadores múltiples es

un conjunto de pequeños secuenciadores
que pueden activarse en cualquier
momento para dar vida a la
interpretación. El contenido musical de
los pulsadores múltiples incluye sonidos
de batería, frases de guitarra, SFX de
numerosos tipos diferentes, toques de
metales y mucho más. Los pulsadores
múltiples son totalmente programables.

LCD a todo color
TYROS dispone de una pantalla en color

de gran tamaño y nitidez, que puede
adoptar cuatro ángulos distintos. El
manejo de TYROS resulta fácil y
cómodo gracias al uso lógico y eficaz de
la pantalla.

Compatibilidad Con TYROS puede seguir utilizando el

software musical existente: TYROS
puede leer y reproducir archivos SFF
(estilos) SMF (canciones), así como
archivos DOC (canciones). TYROS
también es compatible con los
estándares de sonido GM, GM2 y XG.

Se incluye un software de convertidor

de archivos que permite que los datos
de registro del PSR-8000, PSR-9000 y
9000Pro se conviertan y reproduzcan
en TYROS.

functions of the TYROS. With Help, you
can gain a basic understanding of the
TYROS, as well as discover its enjoyable
music-making power. If you're in need
of further details, refer to the Owner's
Manual.

Here's a brief explanation of the
conventions used in both these Help
messages and the Owner's Manual.

- Panel button names are indicated by

brackets (ex., [ENTER]).

- The LCD display is surrounded by
both the [A] - [J] buttons on the sides
and the [1] - [8] buttons beneath.
To avoid confusion between these sets
of buttons, the instructions refer to
the [xxx] LCD button - where " xxx "
refers to the particular function
(ex., [RIGHT1] LCD button).

- The [1] - [8] buttons below the LCD
are lined up in two rows. The top
buttons (marked **) are called the
upper [1] - [8] LCD buttons, while
the bottom buttons (marked **) are
called the lower [1] - [8] LCD buttons.

- Some display pages are called up by

pressing several buttons in succession.

EDIT -> TRANSMIT " indicate that you
should press the [FUNCTION] button,
followed by MIDI, EDIT, then
TRANSMIT.
Open/Save Display

The TYROS utilizes a variety of data

types - including voices, styles, songs
and registration memory settings.
Much of this data is already
programmed and contained in the
TYROS; you can also create and edit
your own data with some of the
functions on the instrument. All
this data is stored in separate files -
just as is done on a computer. These
files can be viewed or selected mainly
by using the file management display
called the " Open/Save display ".
The Open/Save display has two types
of view. One is the Direct Selection
type. The other is the Number Input
type dedicated for opening files. The
Direct Selection type of the Open/Save
display lets you select the desired
file directly by pressing the LCD
letter button.

On the other hand, the Number Input

type of the Open/Save display lets you
select the desired file by inputting
the file number. This type is convenient
when the number of the desired file is
determined in advance. The Number
Input type also displays more files at
once than the Direct Selection type.

Data Storage

Various files such as Voice, Songs,

Styles, and Registration Memory Banks
are saved to the following four types
of memory drives: Preset, User, Floppy
Disk, and the optional Hard Disk. The
Open/Save display lets you select files
or folders after selecting one of the
four drives by using the [BACK]/
[NEXT] buttons.

PRESET drive
The files that are pre-programmed
and installed internally to the TYROS
are kept here. Preset files can be
loaded (called up) but cannot be
re-written to the drive, because it
uses ROM (Read Only Memory).

USER drive

Files kept here are those containing
your own original data, created or
edited using the various functions of
the TYROS. Since this internal drive
uses Flash ROM, the contents are
maintained even when the power is
turned off.

FD drive
You can also store your original
data to floppy disk. Commercially
available disk software can also be
called up here. Naturally, these files
are available only when the
appropriate disk is inserted in the
floppy disk drive.

HD drive (optional)
An optional hard disk drive can be
installed to the TYROS. Created data
can be saved here and recalled.
Direct Access

With the convenient Direct Access

function, you can instantly call up the
desired display - with just a single
additional button press. Press the
[DIRECT ACCESS] button at the left
side bottom of the LCD display and a
message appears in the display
prompting you to press the appropriate
button. Then, simply press the button
corresponding to the desired setting
display to instantly call up that
display.
Refer to the Data List for a list of
the displays that can be called up
with the Direct Access function. Keep
in mind that Direct Access may not be
available depending on the indicated
display or the status of the TYROS.

Voices

The TYROS has a huge selection of various musical

instrument voices for your playing pleasure. Try out
the different voices on your own - checking the voice
name printed above each VOICE button on the panel,
or referring to the voice list in the separate Data List
booklet.
The TYROS also features various functions and
performance conveniences that are unavailable on
an acoustic instrument. For example, you play
several different voices together in a layer (RIGHT 1,
RIGHT 2, AND RIGHT 3), or play one voice with your
left hand (LEFT) while you play a different voice (or
even three layered voices!) with your right.
Voice Effect

The TYROS features a sophisticated

multi-processor effect system which
can add extraordinary depth and
expression to your sound. Use the
buttons below to turn the
corresponding effects on or off as
you play.

Harmony/Echo

The Harmony effect adds a variety
of harmony notes to notes played in
the right-hand section, changing
them automatically to match the
chords you play in the left-hand
section. (The left-hand section is
used especially for accompaniment
when [ACMP] is on or the LEFT part
is enabled.) Each, on the other
hand, adds tremolo, trill, and echo
effects to the notes you play in the
right-hand section, automatically
syncing the effect to the current
tempo.

Initial Touch

The keyboard of the TYROS is
equipped with a touch response
feature that lets you dynamically
and expressively control the level
of the voices with your playing
strength - just as on an acoustic
instrument. Both Initial Touch
(velocity sensitivity) and Aftertouch
are provided, with Initial Touch
having its own On/Off control on the
panel.
With the Initial Touch function, the
TYROS senses how strongly or softly
you play the keys, and uses that
playing strength to affect the sound
in various ways, depending on the
selected voice. This allows you to play
with greater expressiveness and add
effects with your playing technique.

With the Aftertouch function, the

TYROS senses how much pressure
you apply to the keys while playing,
and uses that pressure to affect the
sound in various ways, depending on
the selected voice. This also gives
you more expressive control over the
sound and effects.

Sustain
When this feature is ON, all notes
played on the upper section of the
keyboard (RIGHT1 - 3 parts) have a
longer sustain.

Poly/Mono

This determines whether the part's
voice is played monophonically (only
one note at a time) or polyphonically.
When this is set to " MONO ", the
Portamento effect can be controlled
(depending on the selected voice) by
playing legato.

DSP and DSP Variation

With the digital effects built into the
TYROS you can add ambience and
depth to your music in a variety of
ways-such as adding reverb that
makes you sound like you are playing
in a concert hall. The [DSP] button
turns the DSP (Digital Signal
Processor) effect on or off for the
currently selected keyboard part,
while the [DSP VARIATION] button
lets you switch between two
variations of the DSP effect. You
could use this while you play, for
example, to change the rotating
speed (slow/fast) of the rotary
speaker effect.
Organ Flutes

The TYROS features a variety of lush, dynamic organ

voices that you can call up with the [ORGAN FLUTES]
button. It also gives you the tools to create your own
original organ sounds by using the Sound Creator
(called up with the [SOUND CREATOR] button).
Just as on a traditional organ, you can create your
own sounds by adjusting the levels of the flute
footages.
Sound Creator

The TYROS has a Sound Creator

feature that allows you to create your
own voices by editing certain
parameters of the existing voices.
Once you've created a voice, you can
save it as a User voice to the User
drive or Disk drive for future recall.
Keep in mind that there are two types
of original voices: User Voices created
via the Sound Creator on the TYROS
and Custom Voices created via the
Voice Editor software on a computer
connected to the TYROS.
Mega Voices

These specially programmed voices

are not indicated among the VOICE
buttons on the panel. In fact, they are
not even intended to be played from
the TYROS keyboard. The Mega
voices are primarily designed for
use with recorded MIDI sequence
data (such as songs and styles).
Some of the guitar and bass voices in
particular have been created as Mega
voices for the TYROS, and are easily
distinguished from the normal
voices in the Open/Save displays.

What makes Mega voices special is

their use of velocity switching.
Normal voices use velocity switching,
too - to make the sound quality and/or
level of a voice according to how
strongly or softly you play it. This
makes the TYROS voices sound
authentic and natural. However, with
Mega voices, each velocity range
(the measure of your playing strength)
has a completely different sound.

For example, a Mega guitar voice

includes the sounds of various
performance techniques: open string
(soft to loud) notes, muted notes,
" dead " notes, hammer-on notes,
harmonics, slides, and so on. In
conventional instruments, different
voices having those sounds would be
called up via MIDI and played in
combination to achieve the desired
effect. However, now with Mega
voices, a convincing guitar part
can be played with just a single
voice, using specific velocity values
to play the desired sounds.

Because of the complex nature of these

voices and the precise velocities need
to play the sounds, they're not intended
for playing from the keyboard. They
are, however, very useful and
convenient when creating MIDI data -
especially when you want to avoid
using several different voices just for
a single instrument part.
Styles

The auto accompaniment (style

playback) feature puts a full backing
band at your fingertips. To use it, all
you have to do is play the chords with
your left hand as you perform and the
selected accompaniment style matching
your music will automatically play
along, instantly following the chords
you play. With auto accompaniment,
even a solo performer can enjoy
playing with the backing of an entire
band or orchestra.

The TYROS features many

accompaniment styles (rhythm patterns)
in a wide variety of different musical
genres. Try out the different styles on
your own - checking the style name
printed above each STYLE button on
the panel, or referring to the style list
in the separate Data List booklet.
Chord Fingering

The chords (or simplified chord

indications) you play in the left-hand
section of the keyboard are used for
several performance functions:

- When [ACMP] is turned on , the
left-hand section of the keyboard
becomes the Chord section and the
selected style is played back
according to the chords specified in
the left-hand section of the keyboard.
The specified chords are also used
for Vocal Harmony, the Harmony
(Voice) effect, and the Multi Pads
(when used with Chord Match).

- When the [ACMP] is turned off and

the LEFT part is turned on, the notes
played as the Left part are recognized
as chords. These chords have no
effect on style playback, but are used
for Vocal Harmony, the Harmony
(Voice) effect, and the Multi Pads
(when used with Chord Match).

The TYROS also has a convenient
Chord Tutor function that shows you
which notes you need to play to make
certain chords. (Press [FUNCTION]
-> CHORD FINGERING.)
Fade In/Out

The [FADE IN/OUT] button can be used

to produce smooth fade-ins and fade-
outs when starting and stopping the
style/song playback. This affects the
overall sound of the TYROS - including
the your keyboard performance and the
Multi Pads, as well as the styles and
songs.
Synchro Start/Stop

When [SYNC START] is turned on, you

can automatically have style playback
start as soon as you play a chord in the
chord section of the keyboard.
When [SYNC STOP] is on, the
accompaniment plays as long as you
hold a chord. In other words, you can
abruptly stop the accompaniment
simply by releasing your left hand
from the keyboard.
Since turning on [SYNC STOP]
automatically enables [SYNC START]
as well, you can instantly start up and
stop the accompaniment by alternately
playing chords and releasing them.
Multi Pads

The Multi Pads can be used to play

a number of short pre-recorded
rhythmic and melodic sequences that
can be used to add impact and variety
to your keyboard performances.
Simply press any of the four Multi
Pads after selecting the desired Multi
Pad Bank.
Songs

MIDI song data can be directly played

back from the TYROS. This includes
not only the preset demo songs, but
also commercially available song data
on floppy disk, as well as songs you've
created with the Song Recording
function or Song Creator function.
This is a great advantage when
performing live - the song on disk is
played directly without loading to
internal memory, so you don't have
to wait for playback to start.
In addition, the TYROS can show the
notation and lyrics of the song on the
LCD display, and it lets you practice
your keyboard playing and singing
with the expert help of the Guide
function.
Song Playback Parameters

The TYROS has a variety of song

playback functions - which can be
accessed by pressing [FUNCTION] ->
SONG SETTING.

- Listen to (or practice along with)
your favorite song repeatedly - with
Repeat Playback.

- Play back all of the songs in a
particular folder - repeatedly or at
random - for your listening pleasure.

- Play back all of the songs in all of the

folders. Each of the SONG [I] - [VI]
buttons has wealth of songs - put them
all together and you've got a lot of
music you can play repeatedly or at
random.

If you want, you can interupt this
automatic jukebox at any time and
select a song for playback by using
the [NEXT/CANCEL] LCD button in
the song selection (Open/Save) display.
Simply enter the number of the song
you want to hear next. and it will be
put in the rotation.
Displaying Music Notation

You can view the music notation of the

selected song by pressing the [Score]
LCD button on the Main display -
letting you read the music while the
song plays back. That's not all, though;
there's much more you can do:

- Read the score while the song is
stopped and practice it on your own.

- Use the notation to practice playing
just the melody part, while the
accompaniment provides the backing.
Simply turn off the right-hand part
(channel) from the display.

- If the song has lyric data, you can

read the lyrics from the display and
sing along while the song plays.
Connect a microphone and you can
even have your voice mixed with the
song as it plays.

- With the sophisticated Guide
features, you can let the TYROS
" teach " you how to play the song
properly - and even how to sing it with
the correct pitches.
Displaying Lyrics

If the selected song has lyric data, you

can have the lyrics shown in the display
by pressing the [Lyrics] LCD button in
the Main display. The Lyrics feature
offers a number of useful possibilities:

- The phrases to be sung are highlighted
in time with the music, making it easy
to follow the words and sing along with
the song. Connect a microphone and
you can even have your voice mixed
with the song accompaniment as it
plays.

- Connect an external TV monitor to

the TYROS, and you can have the
lyrics displayed on the TV - for group
sing-alongs and the like. You can
even set the TYROS so that the lyrics
are shown on the TV monitor while
the LCD of the instrument displays
a different operation or function.
(Select [FUNCTION] -> VIDEO OUT.)
Song Position Markers

The TYROS lets you put Song Position

markers in the song data. This not
only lets you navigate quickly and
easily through a song, but also lets you
set up convenient playback loops -
allowing you to instantly jump among
song sections and create dynamic song
arrangements " on the fly, " as you
perform. As the song is playing back,
double-click (press twice) one of the
[SP1] - [SP4] buttons at the point you
wish you enter a marker.
The corresponding button flashes in
green, and the marker for that button
is entered to the 1st beat of the
appropriate measure.
Song Recording

The powerful and easy-to-use Song

Creator feature lets you record your
own keyboard performances to the
user drive, floppy disk, or the
optionally installed hard disk. With
multiple channels for recording,
comprehensive editing features, plus
the use of the style and the Multi Pads,
you can record complex, fully
orchestrated pieces of music in any
music style or arrangement - from
solo piano and church organ to rock
band, big band, Latin ensemble, and
even a full symphony orchestra -
quickly, easily and all by yourself!
The TYROS gives you two ways to
record:
Quick Recording and Multi Recording.

With Quick Recording, you can quickly

and easily record a song, without
having to make detailed settings. With
Multi Recording, you can record data to
each channel independently, one by one,
until you have a finished multi-channel
song.

Song Editing - Event Lists

Song data is made up of various

recorded events, including global events
for the entire song and specific events
for each channel. The MIDI Event List
is a useful Song Creator tool that
arranges all events in a song in
chronological order (in measures, beats,
clocks), and allows you to make detailed
changes to those events. Among the
events included are:

- Style playback events, such as Chords
and Sections

- Channel-specific events, such as note
on/off, program change
(voice number), control change
messages (including volume and pan
of the Mixing Console settings), and
pitch bend

- System events that affect all

channels, such as tempo and beat
(time signature)

- Song Lyric data

The Event List also lets you select
multiple events simultaneously and
change their values altogether at
once.
Registration Memory

Since the TYROS is such a sophisticated

instrument with such a variety of
controls and functions - voice, style,
and effect settings, just to name a few -
it may be difficult to get a handle on
them all. This is where the convenient
Registration Memory feature can help.
It allows you to save virtually all panel
settings to a Registration Memory
preset, and then instantly recall your
custom panel settings by pressing a
single button.

The TYROS allows you to save all eight

memorized buttons as a single
Registration Memory bank. You can
save as many Registration Memory
banks as you want, up to the memory
capacity of the User or Disk drive.
By storing your custom Registration
Memory banks to an optional hard disk,
you can build an extensive library of
settings and organize them according to
your live performance needs.
One Touch Setting

One Touch Setting (OTS) is a convenient

function that allows you to call up
the most appropriate panel settings for
the currently selected style - with the
touch of a single button. Press any one
of the four [ONE TOUCH SETTING]
buttons to instantly call up the
following pre-programmed settings for
style play.

- [ACMP] and [SYNC START] are
automatically turned on, letting you
start the style as soon as you play a
left-hand chord on the keyboard.

- Custom panel settings (for voices,
keyboard parts, effects, etc.) designed
to best match the selected style are
automatically called up - letting you
instantly reconfigure the instrument
to suit the music you play.

The TYROS actually has three different

features that let you instantly call up
complete panel setups: One Touch
Setting (described here), Music Finder,
and Registration Memory. One Touch
Setting differs from the other two in
that each OTS panel setting is dedicated
to a particular style - first, you select
a style for your performance, then you
press a [ONE TOUCH SETTING] button
to match the panel settings to that style.
Music Finder

If you want to play in a certain genre

of music but don't know which style
and voice settings would be appropriate,
the convenient Music Finder function
can help you out. Simply select the
desired music genre from among the
" Records " that make up the Music
Finder and the TYROS automatically
makes all appropriate panel settings to
let you play in that music style!
The Music Finder feature also has a
very handy Search function that lets
you quickly browse through the 1000-
plus records - and find precisely the
setup you want to use, based on the
music or song you want to play.

Vocal Harmony

The TYROS is equipped with an input

jack, letting you connect another audio
source - such as a microphone for your
voice, an electric guitar, or a CD player
- and mix it with the sounds of the
TYROS. Moreover, with the Vocal
Harmony feature, you can also apply
various harmony and echo effects to
your voice or guitar playing. Or use
the TYROS for karaoke and sing-alongs
- applying various DSP effects to your
voice, as you sing with the auto
accompaniment or song playback.
Talk Setting

This function is ideal for making

announcements between your singing
performances. When singing a song,
several effects such as reverb, delay
and vocal harmony are usually
assigned to the MIC Setup. When
speaking to your audience, however,
these effects may sound disturbing.
Whenever the [TALK] button is turned
on, Delay and Vocal Harmony effects
turn off and the amount of reverb
lowers automatically. Talk settings can
be customized as well, allowing you to
add effects to your voice as you speak
to your audience. Turning the [TALK]
button off automatically recalls the
MIC Setup settings for singing, letting
you resume your performance.
Learning and Practicing

The educational and fun Guide features

make it easy to learn new music. They
indicate the notes you should play,
when you should play them, and how
long you should hold them down. Turn
on the [GUIDE] button and learn how to
practice music effectively using the
Song Score function with the Guide
features, reading the music score
shown in the LCD.

Keyboard practice functions

Follow Lights
When this is selected, song playback
pauses, waiting for you to play the
notes correctly. When you play the
correct notes, song playback continues.

Any Key

With this function, song playback
pauses and waits for you to play any
key. When you play the keyboard in
correct time with the music (any key is
fine), song playback continues. (For
this function, the notes of the
keyboard do not sound.)

Sing-along functions

Karao-Key
This function lets you control the song
and accompaniment playback with just
one finger, while you sing along.
Simply play a key on the keyboard in
time with music (any key is fine) and
the accompaniment parts of the song
follow your playing. (For this function,
the notes of the keyboard do not sound.)

Vocal Cue Time

With this function, song playback
pauses, waiting for you to sing the
notes correctly. When you sing the
correct notes, song playback
continues.
Mixing Console

There are many components that

make up the overall sound of the
TYROS. These include MIDI sequence
data from the songs, styles, and Multi
Pads, and audio input from a
microphone, as well as the various
parts of your keyboard performance.
The Mixing Console gives you control
over the volume and pan settings of
each of these components - and some
other settings as well - letting you
fine-tune the overall sound of the
TYROS.
Song Auto Revoice

This feature lets you use the stunning

sound of the TYROS to full advantage
with XG-compatible song data. When
you play back any commercially
available XG song data or that created
on other instruments, you can use
Auto Revoice to automatically use the
specially created voices of the TYROS
(Live!, Cool!, etc.) instead of
the conventional XG voices of the
same type. To do this, simply turn on
Song Auto Revoice (select [MIXING
CONSOLE] -> VOL/VOICE), and the
TYROS uses its unique, stunning sound
set instead of the normal XG
counterparts. You can even specify
your own favorite voices for this
function and make other detailed
settings via the [SETUP] LCD button.
EQ (Equalizer)

Equalizer (EQ) is a sound processor

that divides the frequency spectrum
into multiple bands which can be
boosted or cut as required to tailor the
overall frequency response.
Usually an equalizer is used to correct
the sound from speakers to match the
special character of the room. The
sound is divided into several frequency
bands, allowing you to correct the
sound by raising or lowering the level
for each band. EQ allows you to adjust
the tone or timbre of the sound to
match the performance space, or to
compensate for certain acoustic
characteristics in your room.

For example, you can cut some of the

low range frequencies when playing in
large spaces where the sound is too
" boomy, " or boost the high
frequencies in rooms and close spaces
where the sound is relatively " dead "
and free of echoes.
The TYROS has a high grade five-
band Master EQ, as well as a two-band
EQ for each Part. With this function,
a final effect-tone control-can be
added to the output of your
instrument. You can even create your
own custom EQ settings and save them
to two User Master EQ types - which
can then be called up as needed, along
with the five Preset EQ settings.
Compressor

Compressor is an effect commonly

used to limit and compress the
dynamics (softness/loudness) of an
audio signal. For signals that vary
widely in dynamics, such as vocals and
guitar parts, it " squeezes " the dynamic
range, effectively making soft sounds
louder and loud sounds softer.
When used with gain to boost the
overall level, this creates a more
powerful, more consistently high-level
sound. Compression can be used to
increase sustain for electric guitar,
smooth out the volume of a vocal, or
bring a drum kit or rhythm pattern
further up-front in the mix.

The TYROS has a sophisticated multi-

band compressor that allows you to
adjust the compression effect for
individual frequency bands - giving you
detailed sonic control. You edit and
save your own custom Compressor
types, or conveniently select from one
of the presets
(select [MIXING CONSOLE] -> CMP).
Line Out settings

The [MIXING CONSOLE] -> LINE OUT

display allows you to send the output
of a selected Part or Parts to the LINE
OUT jacks. For Drum Parts, you can
even select specific drum sounds to be
output through these jacks.
In general, the extensive built-in effects
and other Part controls of the TYROS
provide all you need for processing
and mixing complex multi-Part songs.
However, there may be times when you
want to " sweeten " or process a certain
Voice or sound with a favorite
outboard effect unit, or record a Part
to a separate track of a tape recorder.
The Line Out settings are designed just
for these kinds of applications.
External Devices/Equipment

The following devices/equipment can be

connected to the TYROS by using the
jacks or terminals on the rear panel.

- Headphones

- Foot Pedal (Footswitch, Foot
Controller)

- MIDI instruments such as synthesizers,
sequencers, and the MFC10 MIDI Foot
Controller

- TVmonitor

- Computer (Macintosh or Windows)

- Audio and PA equipment (such as

effect units, mixers, amp/speaker
systems, etc.)

- Microphone

The following equipment can be
optionally installed to the TYROS.

- Speakers

- Hard Disk unit
MFC10

By connecting an optional MFC10 MIDI

Foot Controller to the TYROS, you can
conveniently control a wide range of
operations and functions by using your
feet - perfect for changing settings and
controlling the sound while you
perform live. Different functions can
be assigned to each of the footswitches
and up to five foot controllers (optional)
can be connected to the MFC10, for
additional sound-shaping possibilities.
To assign the desired functions to the
appropriate footswitches/foot
controllers on the TYROS, select
[FUNCTION] -> MIDI -> EDIT -> MFC10.
Computer

By connecting a computer (via the USB

cable), you can transfer data between
the TYROS and the computer via MIDI,
and use the computer to control, edit
and organize data on the TYROS. With
the included Voice Editor program, for
example, you can edit and save your
own custom voices for the TYROS.
There is also a special File Utility
program that lets you use your
computer to manage files in the USER/
FD/HD (optional) drive.
TV monitor

The TYROS allows you to display the

LCD contents on a connected TV
monitor. If you intend on doing
extensive editing on the TYROS - such
as manually inputting song or style
data, or when organizing files in the
Open/Save display - you'll find it to be
much easier on your eyes (and nerves)
to have the LCD contents shown on a
large display. Since you can also
display song lyrics on the TV, this
feature is perfect for setting the mood
at sing-alongs and other similar events.
You can even set the TYROS so that the
lyrics are shown on the TV monitor
while the LCD of the instrument
displays a different operation or
function. (Select [FUNCTION] ->
VIDEO OUT.)
Hard Disk unit

By installing an optional hard disk drive

to the TYROS, you can vastly expand
the data storage capacity - letting you
create a large library of your important
data, without having to worry about a
lack of memory space. Once installed,
the hard disk operates seamlessly and
transparently within the TYROS,
becoming another drive in the system
(like the internal Preset and User drives)
that you can access from the Open/Save
display. Even if your data is scattered
across the drive in a complex hierarchy
of folders and paths, you can easily call
up specific files by memorizing the
appropriate paths to the SONG and
STYLE panel buttons.

utilisée pour indiquer l'ordre dans
lequel vous devez appuyer sur les
touches et/ou sélectionner les menus.
Par exemple, les instructions
<< [FUNCTION] -> MIDI -> EDIT ->
TRANSMIT >> indiquent que vous
devez appuyer sur la touche
[FUNCTION], puis sur MIDI, EDIT et
TRANSMIT.
Ecrans Open/Save

Le TYROS fait appel à différents types

de données, parmi lesquels des voix, des
styles, des morceaux et des réglages de
la mémoire de registration. La plupart
de ces données sont déjà programmées
et présentes sur le TYROS, mais vous
pouvez également créer et éditer vos
propres données grâce à certaines
fonctions de l'instrument. Toutes ces
données sont stockées dans des fichiers
distincts - comme sur un ordinateur -
que vous pouvez visualiser ou
sélectionner via l'écran de gestion des
fichiers << Open/Save >> (Ouvrir/
Sauvegarder).

L'écran Open/Save propose deux types

d'affichage. Le premier est la sélection
directe (Direct Selection) et le deuxième,
la saisie de numéros (Number Input) qui
vous permet d'ouvrir des fichiers.
La sélection directe de l'écran Open/
Save vous permet de sélectionner
directement le fichier souhaité en
appuyant sur la touche LCD
correspondante. Tandis que la saisie de
numéros vous permet de sélectionner le
fichier souhaité en saisissant son
numéro. Ce type d'affichage est utile
lorsque le numéro du fichier est connu
à l'avance. En outre, la saisie de
numéros affiche un plus grand nombre
de fichiers à la fois que la sélection
directe.

Stockage des données

Les différents fichiers, tels que les

fichiers de voix, de morceaux, de styles
et de mémoire de registration, sont
sauvegardés dans les quatre types de
lecteurs suivants : préprogrammé,
utilisateur, disquette et le disque dur en
option. L'écran Open/Save vous permet
de sélectionner des fichiers ou des
dossiers après que l'un des quatre
lecteurs a été choisi à l'aide des touches
[BACK]/[NEXT].

Lecteur PRESET (Préprogrammé)
C'est ici que sont conservés les fichiers
préprogrammés et installés en interne
sur le TYROS. Vous pouvez charger
(appeler) les fichiers préprogrammés,
mais pas les réenregistrer sur le
lecteur, car celui-ci utilise une
mémoire ROM (Read Only Memory).

Lecteur USER (Utilisateur)

Les fichiers conservés sur ce lecteur
contiennent vos propres données
originales, créées et modifiées à l'aide
des différentes fonctions du TYROS.
Dans la mesure où ce lecteur interne
utilise une mémoire Flash ROM, les
données en mémoire sont conservées
même lorsque vous mettez l'appareil
hors tension.

Lecteur FD
Vous pouvez stocker vos données
originales sur une disquette, de même
que faire appel à des logiciels sur
disquette disponibles dans le
commerce. Bien sûr, ces fichiers sont
uniquement disponibles lorsque vous
insérez la disquette appropriée dans
le lecteur.

Lecteur HD (en option)

Vous pouvez installer un disque dur en
option sur le TYROS afin d'y
sauvegarder les données créées et de
les rappeler.
Direct Access

Grâce à la fonction bien utile Direct

Access (Accès direct), vous pouvez
appeler directement l'écran de votre
choix, en appuyant simplement sur une
touche. Enfoncez la touche [DIRECT
ACCESS] en bas à gauche de l'écran
LCD. Un message vous invitant à
appuyer sur la touche appropriée
apparaît à l'écran. Il vous suffit alors
d'appuyer sur la touche correspondant
à l'écran du réglage souhaité pour
ouvrir instantanément celui-ci.
Reportez-vous à la Liste des données
pour obtenir la liste des écrans pouvant
être appelés avec la fonction Direct
Access. Ne perdez cependant pas de vue
que cette fonction peut ne pas être
disponible en fonction de l'écran choisi
ou du statut du TYROS.
Voix

Le TYROS propose une vaste sélection de voix

instrumentales que vous pourrez reproduire à loisir.
Essayez les différentes voix - en vérifiant le nom de
la voix imprimé au-dessus de chaque touche VOICE
du panneau ou en vous reportant à la liste de voix
fournie dans la brochure Liste des données.
Le TYROS dispose en outre de diverses fonctions et
possibilités de jeu que vous ne trouverez pas sur un
instrument acoustique. Vous pouvez par exemple
reproduire plusieurs voix différentes en couche
(RIGHT 1, RIGHT 2 et RIGHT 3) ou reproduire une
voix de la main gauche (LEFT) tandis que vous
jouez une autre (voire trois voix superposées !) avec
la droite.
Effet de voix

Le TYROS est doté d'un système d'effets

multiprocesseur extrêmement
sophistiqué capable d'ajouter aux sons
une profondeur et une expression sans
précédent. Utilisez les touches ci-dessous
pour activer et désactiver tour à tour les
effets tandis que vous jouez.

Harmony/Echo

L'effet Harmony (Harmonie) ajoute
toute une variété de notes d'harmonie
aux notes jouées dans la section à main
droite, en les modifiant
automatiquement en fonction des
accords joués dans la section à main
gauche. (La section à main gauche est
essentiellement utilisée pour
l'accompagnement lorsque la fonction
[ACMP] ou la partie LEFT sont
activées.) Par ailleurs, chaque fonction
ajoute des effets de trémolo, de trille et
d'écho aux notes que vous jouez dans
la section à main droite, en ajustant
automatiquement l'effet en fonction
du tempo actuel.

Initial Touch

Le clavier du TYROS dispose d'une
fonction de réponse au toucher qui
vous permet de contrôler le niveau de
la voix de façon dynamique et
expressive selon la force de votre jeu -
exactement comme sur un instrument
acoustique. Vous avez le choix entre
Initial Touch (Toucher initial)
(sensibilité à la vélocité) et Aftertouch
(Modification ultérieure), Initial Touch
ayant sa propre commande
d'activation/désactivation sur le
panneau.
Grâce à la fonction Initial Touch, le
TYROS perçoit la force avec laquelle
vous appuyez sur les touches et
l'utilise pour modifier le son de
différentes manières en fonction de
la voix sélectionnée. Cela vous
permet de jouer avec plus
d'expressivité et d'ajouter des effets
au travers de votre technique de jeu.

La fonction Aftertouch permet au

TYROS de ressentir la pression que
vous appliquez aux touches lorsque
vous jouez et l'utilise pour affecter le
son de différentes manières en
fonction de la voix sélectionnée. Elle
vous offre en outre un plus grand
contrôle de l'expressivité sur le son et
les effets.

Sustain (Maintien)
L'activation de cette fonction permet
de prolonger le maintien des notes
jouées dans la section supérieure du
clavier (parties RIGHT1 - 3).

Poly/Mono

Cette fonction détermine si la voix est
reproduite en mode monophonique
(une seule note à la fois) ou
polyphonique. Lorsqu'elle est réglée
sur << MONO >>, vous pouvez
contrôler l'effet de portamento (en
fonction de la voix sélectionnée) en
jouant en legato.

DSP et DSP Variation

Les divers effets numériques intégrés
du TYROS vous permettent d'ajouter à
votre musique de l'ambiance et de la
profondeur d'une multitude de façons
différentes -par exemple, en
l'enrichissant d'un effet de
réverbération qui vous donne
l'impression de jouer dans une salle de
concert. La touche [DSP] active/
désactive l'effet DSP (Digital Signal
Processor - processeur de signaux
numériques) de la partie du clavier
actuellement sélectionnée, tandis que
la touche [DSP VARIATION]
(Variation du DSP) vous permet de
basculer entre deux variations de
l'effet DSP. Vous pouvez par exemple
l'utiliser tout en jouant pour modifier
la vitesse de rotation (lente/rapide) de
l'effet de haut-parleur tournant.
Organ Flutes

Le TYROS est doté d'une grande variété de voix

d'orgue dynamiques et riches que vous pouvez
appeler à l'aide de la touche [ORGAN FLUTES]
(Flûtes d'orgue). Cette fonction vous offre
également les outils nécessaires pour créer vos
propres sons d'orgue originaux grâce au Sound
Creator (Créateur de sons) (appelé à l'aide de la
touche [SOUND CREATOR]).
De même que sur un orgue traditionnel, vous
pouvez créer vos propres sons d'orgue en ajustant
la longueur en pieds des flûtes.
Sound Creator

Le TYROS dispose d'une fonction Sound

Creator qui vous permet de créer vos
propres voix en éditant certains
paramètres des voix existantes. Une fois
que vous avez créé une voix, vous
pouvez la sauvegarder en tant que voix
utilisateur sur le lecteur utilisateur ou
de disquette en vue de la rappeler
ultérieurement.
Gardez à l'esprit qu'il existe deux types
de voix originales : les voix utilisateur,
créées à l'aide du Sound Creator du
TYROS, et les voix personnalisées,
créées avec le logiciel Voice Editor
(Editeur de voix) sur un ordinateur
connecté au TYROS.
Voix Mega

Ces voix spécialement programmées

ne sont pas reprises dans les touches
VOICE du panneau. En fait, elles ne sont
au départ pas destinées à être
reproduites sur le clavier TYROS. Les
voix Mega (Variation méga) sont
avant tout conçues pour être utilisées
avec des données de séquence MIDI
(telles que des morceaux et des styles).
Certaines voix de guitare et de basse ont
notamment été ajoutées au TYROS sous
forme de voix Mega et se distinguent
facilement des voix normales dans
les écrans Open/Save.
